Taking Action
We need everyone’s help to organize our union. Here’s what you can do:
1) Sign a union card
We need two thirds of all graduate students to sign union cards to be recognized by the university. You can help us reach that goal by meeting with an organizer to sign a union card.
2) Talk to a friend
You can help expand our reach by telling someone who hasn’t yet heard about the union effort. You can encourage consciousness by having an open discussion about working conditions, healthcare, fees, and any other concerns your colleagues might have. Everyone has problems specific to their workplace, and a union is the best way to get those problems heard and rectified.
3) Join the organizing committee
We meet online every Tuesday at 1 pm to discuss progress and make plans. We organize groups to visit the graduate student workplaces on campus and host card-signing events. You can sign up to join the committee or just visit to see how we do things. You can help us by sharing your skills and making your voice heard.
4) Advocate in person
The committee organizes a group to visit a different department each week. Join us, and you’ll meet new students and strengthen bonds by sharing experiences and concerns with each other. And you’ll help us reach our union card goal by collecting signatures of interested workers.
5) Make something
I made this website, and some really cool QR codes. Silas made our awesome logo. Alex wrote some great posts about union facts and ICE safety. If you like making posters, pamphlets, instagram posts, or carefully crafted mission statements, we’d love your help.
